Welcome to Opulence, a web site dedicated to Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries novels by L. J. Smith. I created Opulence several years ago and though my appreciation for the series and the character never went away, I was not able to maintain a quality site and so it went away to rest offline in the depths of my hardrive. I've brought Opulence back in a sort of archival mode.
Currently, the site does not have any information on Nightfall the newest installment in the series that was released in February 2009. While I recognize that this book may contribute to my site, I have been having a very hard time getting through the novel. I thought this may be because it has been many years since I first read the original series and my teenage mind inflated how wonderful they actually were. You know, like I didn't think they were all THAT cheesy at 16 as I would at 26?
So, I dutifully took advantage of the free books online from harperteen.com and read books one and two again. Unfortunatly (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) the problem does not lie within this reader's mind but within the writing itself. I have considered approaching this new installment with a fresh mind, forgetting about the original four books. Maybe that will help just to get through the text, but I'm not sure if it will inspire me to include these new additions to the site.
